Mercury in Retrograde Reflection & Renewal
What Mercury in Retrograde really means, and a journal to move through it
Hi Loves,
Mercury entered retrograde this week, on November 9th to be exact. While the internet and pop culture might have you bracing for chaos, this season isn’t something to fear. It’s an invitation to slow down.
What does it mean fo Mercury to be in Retrograde?
Mercury, the planet that rules communication, travel, and technology, appears to visibly move backward in the sky three or four times each year. From here on Earth, that optical illusion often mirrors a collective shift inward. What’s moving isn’t Mercury - it’s our attention.
Despite what we often hear, Mercury itself doesn’t actually move backward. The planet continues traveling forward around the Sun - it’s our perspective from Earth that changes. Mercury moves much faster than we do, completing a full orbit in just 88 days. Several times a year, it laps us. From our vantage point here on earth, that moment of being “passed” makes Mercury appear to slow down, pause, and drift backward through the sky. This is what astronomers call retrograde motion.
So, nothing about the planet itself reverses. What changes is how we’re seeing it. That illusion of reversal mirrors what happens within us: the moments when progress seems to stall, or when clarity blurs just enough to make us look closer at what’s going on around us.
What does this mean for us?
Mercury in Retrograde isn’t a curse or a cosmic prank. It’s a reflection of perspective - a time when our usual pace of communication, thought, and movement asks to be recalibrated. In this time, we’re being invited to listen differently.
Retrograde seasons are like cosmic review periods. They ask us to pause, re-evaluate, and revisit what may have been overlooked. When we resist that slowing, things can feel tangled - emails sent too fast, words said too soon, plans falling through. But when we honor the rhythm and allow the pause, retrograde becomes a time of gentle course correction. What looks like delay is often divine redirection.
You may notice themes from the past resurfacing, llike conversations that need closure, projects waiting for refinement, or relationships asking for clarity. Retrograde helps us realign with what we actually mean, not just what we say. It helps us return to what we’ve left unfinished, bringing it into fuller integrity.
Mercurty in Retrogade Journal
To support you through this cycle, we created the Retrograde Reflection Journal - a companion for slowing down and coming home to clarity. Inside, you’ll find guided prompts and gentle questions designed to help you track what’s resurfacing, release what no longer aligns, and realign with what truly matters. Think of it as a pause in paper form - a space to notice your own patterns, rework old stories, and let insight arrive at its own pace.
